Just like it's smaller 600g brother, the FX Fire 0.9kg car fire extinguisher is designed for cars, motorbikes, vans, pleasure boats and caravans in a lightweight aluminium cylinder with a compact plastic headcap. It takes up a minimal space so can be kept near to the driver for emergencies and has a clip holder to keep it in place whether in a vehicle or on a wall.

BC powder extinguishers are suitable for fighting Class B fire (flammable liquids, petrol. Diesel, oil, grease), Class C (flammable gases), and fires involving live electrical equipment. FX Fire car extinguishers are designed to be maintenance free and are disposable after 5 years. They are not refillable but a refill would cost more than the price of a new one anyway.

The updated British Standard 5306-8:2012 Selection and positioning of portable fire extinguishers – Code of Practice states as follows.

"5.4.3 Use of powder extinguishers The discharge of a powder extinguisher within buildings can cause a sudden reduction of visibility and can also impair breathing, which could temporarily jeopardize escape, rescue or other emergency action. For this reason, powder extinguishers should generally not be specified for use indoors, unless mitigated by a health and safety risk assessment."

If you are not sure what this means, please contact us any time or see our Fire Safety Survey service. Responsible extinguisher service technicians (including ours) may refuse to certify a powder extinguisher that is not suitable for the location.
