Carbon monoxide is hazardous because human beings simply can't detect it until it is too late. Human breathing is stimulated by the amount of carbon dioxide in our bloodstream, not the amount of oxygen in the air. Carbon monoxide drastically reduces the ability of our blood to absorb oxygen.
